What is a Machine Press?
At T Shinton Engineering Ltd, we are high speed manufacturers of component parts for machine presses and have been since our business was first established in 1977. But just what is a machine press and what are the parts we manufacture for it?
A machine press is something which is used in the manufacturing industry and is a tool that deforms a workpiece under extremely high pressure. Prior to machine presses being invented, works were required to manually hammer metal in order to change its shape by hand – an incredibly taxing and labour intensive process. The introduction of machine presses made it easy for manufacturing companies to deform metal workpieces into their desired shape much more quickly and easily than ever before meaning the industrial process was much quicker and more cost effective.
How Does A Machine Press Work?
The majority of machine presses work by pressing a plate or die onto or against a workpiece. Machine presses are controlled by a tool setter who positions the workpiece and controls the machine press itself. Once the workpiece is in the correct position, the tool setter can activate the machine press which normally works using hydraulic pressure and electric motor. It then pushes the pate or die against the surface of the workpiece, causing the shape to deform and be made into the shape required. Presses can be classified according to their mechanism, their function, their structure and their controllability and we have experience making parts for all different types of presses.
The majority of machine presses use extremely high pressure in order to deform metals. This means they’re effective on many incredibly strong metals, such as bronze, copper, aluminium, iron, steel and composites.
Machine presses are used in many different industries and for many different uses as they can be integrated into almost every manufacturing process. This includes the aerospace industry, building and construction industries, rail industry, oil and gas industries, marine transport industry, commercial transport industry, agriculture industry, energy storage industry and many more.
Decades of Experience Creating Component Parts for Machine Presses
Here at T Shinton Engineering Ltd, we have been manufacturing parts for machine presses ever since 1977, meaning we have decades of knowledge and experience in the industry. We can carry out turning, boring and milling work and do so for both commercial and domestic customers across Wolverhampton and beyond from our base at Waterside Industrial Estate. Our pricing is highly competitive, and we offer extremely fast delivery of urgent replacement parts, usually within just 24 hours.
